BIRD WATCHING IN LA MOLA
In La Mola there is the only colony of Balearic Shearwater located in Menorca and consists of about 200 couples. This bird mainly breeds in the cavities between the cliffs.
The Balearic shearwater (puffinus mauretanicus) is the only bird endemic to Spain and as its name suggests, it breeds in the Balearic Islands, but it can also reach the Atlantic and the Cantabrian. It is currently included in the Red Book of Birds of Spain prepared by the International Union for Conservation which classifies it as a species in "critical danger of extinction".
Therefore, protecting La Mola's Balearic shearwater has become a top priority.
